Poem Inspired by ‘Why Romeo Hates Juliet’…

One of my readers, Petrusa Mitrovic- Bandovic, was inspired to write a poem after reading ‘Why Romeo Hates Juliet’ and I want to share it with everyone.  It’s very beautiful, and her words are powerful, having come from her heart.  I was deeply touched and honoured by her sweet gesture.  I’m reposting her email below.  Thank you, Petrusa!

Hi Anna,

I finished your book and got inspired to write a poem, and I wanted to share it with you! 🙂

‘Why Romeo Hates Juliet’

Oh life, could you excuse me for a moment?
I need to get off and cry for a while,
I need to wash off shadows that I put over love,
Love that existed once in my scared little heart.

I am asking you only to try to understand…
That there are moments when you know something is bad,
But you rush through, make mistakes and get lost
On that way that you thought you knew the best.

Even though pushed into the corners of the heart,
Love got healed and brought back to life,
By cherished memories and your movie star smile,
Got me back to a place where I know I am alive.

Hope you like it :-)))) I love your book and am really amazed by your talent!

My New Book ‘Why Romeo Hates Juliet’ Is Now Available

I just wanted to let everyone know that my new romantic comedy novel, WHY ROMEO HATES JULIET, is now available on Amazon and Smashwords.com.   It will also be coming soon to Apple/Itunes Books, Diesel, Kobo, Sony and Barnes & Noble.  I’ll let you know when it’s finally up on these other sites.

I’m including the Amazon blurb below to let you know what the story is about.  I hope you’ll like it!

Can the Greatest of Enemies Become the Greatest of Lovers?

WHY ROMEO HATES JULIET is a romantic comedy about Juliet Soma, a stressed-out romance writer who has a deadline to meet but she’s developed a major case of writer’s block and hasn’t been able to write anything in months.  To help her relax, her sister takes her to a secluded beach house on Prince Edward Island in Canada.  Much to her surprise, it works—until the neighbors show up!

Some would say that A-list, movie star Romeo Boyd is washed up in Hollywood.  But bad boy Romeo doesn’t care.  He’d much rather party—and party loud.  So he decides to take his entourage of friends and head out to his beach house on Prince Edward Island, a place he’s never vacationed at until now.

Unfortunately, neither Romeo nor Juliet get what they want.  Instead, they get each other!  Stubborn and a fighter to the bitter end, Juliet clashes with her noisy neighbor and an epic war begins, with each playing pranks on the other, neither of them giving an inch, and both of them fighting the intense attraction sizzling between them.

The battle escalates, until one day, Juliet accidentally shoots him.  When Romeo comes to, to Juliet’s horror, he has amnesia and believes that she is his wife.  But does he really?  No, of course not!  He’s just faking it and using all of his Hollywood acting skills to get his payback on her.  But how far is Romeo prepared to go, especially when he finds his heart melting towards her?  And how far will Juliet take things when she discovers what he’s really been up to?  Will true love win out in the end for both of them?

WHY ROMEO HATES JULIET is an epic, emotional rollercoaster ride filled with twists & turns and highs & lows, spanning an entire summer at the beach.  Just when you think one thing will happen, something else does.  And when you think it’s all over, it suddenly isn’t.  Be prepared to have fun, laughs, surprises, shocks and maybe even a few tears as you live a lifetime with all of the back and forth drama between feuding neighbors, Romeo & Juliet.

Word Count: 163,184

Note from the Author:

When creating this story, I was fascinated with the themes of love & war.  I wanted to explore how a silly little thing like a neighbor playing their music too loud can end up with someone almost getting killed.   I mean, seriously—how does that happen???  But I firmly believe that, with love and understanding, differences can be overcome, and even the greatest of enemies can become the greatest of lovers… because in the end, love heals all.  Anna Mara

The Top 10 Things To Remember When Falling In Love

I’m a romance writer and I’ve had to ‘study’ the subject of love for my novels. From everything I’ve seen, heard, learned and lived, here are my top 10 things to remember when falling in love. Break them at your own peril.

1) Be your own best friend. Don’t expect him to be your ‘anything’ except your love.

2) Don’t change anything about yourself to please ‘him’. Be who you are! If he likes and accepts you that way, fine. If not, move on. He’s not the one for you.

3) Remember, you’re not just marrying him; you’re also marrying his lifestyle. If you like the opera on a Saturday night and he likes beer and pizza on the couch, it may not matter today because you can always go to the opera with your friends. But it will matter one day down the road, when you need him to come with you that one time and he won’t go. Or maybe you’re the one who likes beer and pizza…

4) Remember, you’re not just marrying him, you’re marrying his family. Take a good look at what degree of dysfunctional relationship he has with them.

5) What is his relationship with his mother? Look closely, because you’ll see clues about how he’ll treat you.

6) Remember… you can’t ‘change’ him. WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET!!!! Contrary to popular opinion, he won’t ‘change’ after you move in together/get engaged/get married.

7) You can’t ‘save’ him. He can only ‘save’ himself.

8) Drugs/alcohol problems/gambling/other addictions are all deal breakers because he will always love his addiction more than he loves you…. unless he gets help. And he can only do that if he WANTS to get help. He can’t do it for you… or because you want him to. He has to want to do it for himself.

9) If you catch yourself saying, “He makes me feel loved, he makes me feel strong, he makes me feel safe, etc”… STOP. No one should be ‘making you’ feel these things. You have to feel them for yourself… within yourself… first. YOU have to make yourself feel loved, strong, safe, etc.

10) If you decide to marry him, always make sure you have enough money secretly stashed away in case you need to leave him.

Are You a Romance Book Addict?

If you can answer, ‘Yes’ to 3 or more of the following, then you’re a romance book addict, just like me. I’ve done all of these things… so see how many you can relate to…

· Have you read so many romance novels that you can’t bear to part with any of them? Consequently, your bookcases are full and you’ve started shoving them under couches, in microwave stands and under beds because you have no more room to put them in?

· Do you love your romance novels so much that you can remember which romances you’ve lent and to whom; and when they’re not returned on time, you get annoyed and actually ask for them back?

· When you’re in between books, do you get such a physical, overpowering craving to read a romance novel that you have to go out and get one ASAP? Is the craving as strong as your craving for chocolate and caffeine?

· When you read a romance in bed, do you ever look over at your ‘significant other’ snoring away beside you and want to smash the book over his head because he just doesn’t ‘get it’?

· Do you have a special secret stash of romances you call ‘Keepers’? These are the books that are sooo good you would never part with them, no matter what and you read them again and again when you’re in the mood?

· Have you read and re-read your Keepers so many times that the pages are all dog-eared and some are even stuck together with coffee stains?

· Have you ever read a romance book while cooking at the stove and a) overcooked the spaghetti or b) burnt the burgers or c) charred the peas?

· Have you ever left a kettle full of boiling water on the stove and forgotten all about it because you were so engrossed in your romance book? Did every drop of water evaporate and you only realized what was happening when you heard crackling coming from the empty kettle on the hot burner because the metal was melting?

· Is the romance novel you’re reading so good that you’ve gone deaf and can’t hear your husband or kids calling you?

· Have you ever been so captivated by a romance story that you forgot to call your mother and the poor woman (the one who cleaned your pee, pooh and puke until you were 18 years old and is still helping clean up your messes today)… that woman… was waiting patiently by her phone for your call and was getting worried when she didn’t hear from you?

· Have you read so many romance books in your life that you can tell from the first two pages whether a novel is a ‘Dud’ or a ‘Keeper’? And have you read so many romances that your high standards have now made you very picky about what you read… and you’re finding more Duds than Keepers at the bookstores lately?

· When you find a Keeper, are you heartbroken when you know you’re on your last chapter because the book was sooo good but now it’s going to end and then what will life be like for you???? Do you go through a mini-depression when you come to the words, ‘The End’ because it feels like you’re leaving old friends behind?

· Have you ever spent hours online, surfing romance book websites and looking for recommendations from other readers on books they consider Keepers that you may want to read next?

· When you’re reading late at night, do you just have to read one more chapter before you go to sleep… and then just one more after that… and another after that… until you realize that it’s 3am and you have to be up at 6am to go to work… but you just don’t care?

Okay… face it… you’re hooked! If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to 3 or more of the above, then you’re addicted to romance novels, as I am. But it’s a good addiction, so enjoy it and have fun! It’ll be our little secret.
